It was in 1930 that the Cité armchair was birthed. As part of a competition run by the city of Nancy, Jean Prouvé got to wondering about how to furnish the rooms of the Nancy university campus. Attached to architecture and passionate about collective housing, the designer embarked on the design of an armchair with dynamic and comfortable lines.
With a subtle marriage of materials, Jean Prouvé delivered a harmonious piece. The generous dimensions of the seat, its sloping silhouette and the presence of a headrest seems to be a real invitation to rest. The meticulous finishes, such as the leather straps on the armrests, bring the final touch to one of the artist's first masterpieces.
Often staged in pairs, the Cité armchair flourishes alone or accompanied by other design pieces. It is particularly found in cozy spaces, such as a lounge or office.
