Basaglia & Rota Nodari: Colette gives light a shape

Basaglia & Rota Nodari: a design duo

With Alberto Basaglia and Natalia Rota Nodari, design is a collaborative endeavour. As Italian architects and designers, they work together on projects where aesthetic exploration remains closely linked to function, materials and the possibilities offered by industrial production. Their collaboration with the Italian manufacturer Pedrali has notably given rise to several collections of lighting. A story that began in 2009 and continues with creations that play on light, transparency and deliberately minimalist forms.

Among these, one small lamp is particularly well named: Colette. Simple lines, colour and just the right amount of personality. It just goes to show that, to stand out, you don’t always need to go over the top.

Colette: a small lamp with a striking effect

Designed by Alberto Basaglia and Natalia Rota Nodari and launched by Pedrali in 2013, the Colette lampfeatures a particularly simple design: a cylinder topped by a hemisphere. Two basic shapes which, when combined, play upon the diffusion of light and the transparency of the material.

Made entirely from polycarbonate, Colette allows light to diffuse through its translucent form. Its silhouette thus gives it a very light, almost ethereal presence, whilst retaining enough character to become a true decorative feature.  And its name was not chosen at random: the designers drew inspiration from Colette, the famous French writer, whose modern and lively spirit they recognised in the lamp.

At Maison Vachon, the collection is available to hire in two versions: the Colette White PM Lamp, which is more understated and luminous, and the Colette Smoked GM Lamp, which is more imposing and striking. Placed on a console table, a side table, a counter or in the centre of a lounge, they add small points of light to the décor without overwhelming the space.

Colette provides light, of course. But she is also the perfect decorative piece.

Why choose the Colette lamp for an event?

In the events industry, lighting allows you to craft the atmosphere down to the finest detail. And that is precisely where the Colette lamp comes into its own. Its compact design means it can be easily integrated into a variety of settings. The white PM version casts a soft light over a table or lounge area, whilst the smoky GM version can serve as a more prominent decorative feature in a reception hall, showroom or VIP area.

Both versions can also be combined within the same design scheme. By playing with dimensions, transparency and repetition, the light becomes a key compositional element. Hiring the Colette lamp therefore allows you to enhance a reception area, exhibition stand, lounge, showroom or premium event with a contemporary light fitting that is easy to pair with different styles of furniture.

Small or large, white or smoked: it’s up to Colette to set the tone.

Colette shines at Maison Vachon

At Maison Vachon, we love light fittings that do more than just provide light – those that also contribute to the identity of a space. With its simple forms and interplay of transparency, the Colette lamp by Basaglia & Rota Nodari, produced by Pedrali, ticks all the right boxes.

Available to hire from Maison Vachon in a small white version and a large smoked version, it fits naturally into lounge areas, showrooms, exhibition stands, reception areas, receptions and high-end events. A lamp that’s easy to install, easy to style and distinctive enough to add that little extra touch of personality to the setting.

Because, after all, Colette also loves being in the spotlight.
