Edra was founded in 1987 in Perignano, Tuscany, by Valerio and his sister Monica Mazzei. It is a family business that quickly gained a reputation for its innovative and avant-garde designs, as well as for its use of high-quality materials. Since then, the brand has also become known for its commitment to sustainability and the environment, as the manufacturer uses recyclable materials and optimises its production processes.
Edra has worked with some of the world's most renowned designers, including Francesco Binfaré, who created the Flap sofa with multiple backrests, a designer seat available for hire from Maison Vachon. Brazilian brothers Fernando and Humberto Campana have also expressed their creativity alongside Edra. Their work has resulted in the creation of original pieces of furniture such as the
Corallo armchair, whose structure is made of hand-bent stainless steel wire, the
Vermelha armchair covered with hundreds of cotton rope braids, and the Favela armchair made from small pieces of wood, glued and nailed by hand in a random pattern. These three seatings are all unique pieces that can be considered true works of art. Edra therefore has a clear vision in promoting exceptional products that combine elegance and innovation.
Edra is part of the permanent collections of the most important international contemporary art museums. These include the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome, the MoMA in New York, the Centre Pompidou and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the Triennale Design Museum in Milan, the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein and Die Neue Sammlung in Munich. All of these venues convey the values of the manufacturer and its iconic designer furniture.
