Marcel Wanders, the brand's creator, first made a name for himself alongside the Droog Design collective. But in 2001, when he wanted to strike out on his own, he created Moooi in collaboration with Casper Vissers.
Moooi means “beautiful” in Dutch, a simple and effective message that the publisher wants to convey. He offers lighting, furniture, and accessories that are as offbeat as they are unexpected, sure to attract attention wherever they go.
Since then, Marcel Wanders has collaborated with many designers, each more creative than the last. These include Jasper Morrison, Ross Lovegrove, and Maarten Baas. His goal is to help them realize their dreams.
Take Front Design, a quartet of Swedish female designers. In 2006, they created the Horse floor lamp, based on the actual dimensions of a horse, with a height of over 2 meters. The manufacturer likes to draw inspiration from the animal world for its furniture in order to add a touch of fantasy, and therefore offers a wide range of animal-shaped lighting fixtures.
Moooi also knows how to keep things simple. Take, for example, the large collection designed by Marcel Wanders, including the Container high table, which is also available as a table and stool. Its sleek design and lightweight construction make it a practical and timeless piece of furniture. Extremely sturdy thanks to its resin and pressed wood fiber top, it is equally at home indoors or outdoors.
