A French architect and designer, Jean Prouvé is passionate about industrial housing and innovative productions. Between furniture creations and construction projects, he is one of the great artistic figures of the twentieth century.
For the Standard chair (initially called the Metropole chair), Jean Prouvé applied himself to understanding the function of the chair and its movement: the most important forces are supported by the rear legs of the seat. Based on this principle, he chose a hollow and voluminous underframe at the back, and opted for simple narrow steel tubes at the front. In this way, the load on the floor is well distributed, in a perfect minimalist balance.
Complete with an oak seat and backrest, the Standard chair offers undeniable assets: comfort, strength and durability. Attached to the ergonomic, almost industrial aspect of his constructions, Jean Prouvé delivers here a timeless model that has become iconic. Next to a desk or around a pedestal table, the Standard chair enhances its environment.
