For Charles & Ray Eames, design is, above all, a matter of curiosity, experimentation and creativity. Their ambition? To create beautiful, functional and accessible objects capable of enhancing everyday life.
Charles Eames, born in 1907 in St Louis, and Ray Eames, born in 1912 in Sacramento, formed one of the most influential couples in 20th-century design. He was an architect by training; she was a painter. Together, they developed an approach where art, architecture and industrial innovation converged. From the 1940s onwards, they experimented with new materials and manufacturing processes, notably moulded plywood and later fibreglass. Their research gave rise to designs that have become staples of contemporary furniture.
Chairs, armchairs, office furniture, but also films, photographs and architecture: their creative world truly knows no bounds. Today, their designs continue to transcend generations, thanks in particular to Vitra, the long-standing European publisher of their furniture.
Designs conceived over 70 years ago. And still a long way ahead of their time.
With
the DSW Chair, Charles & Ray Eames created one of the most
recognisable silhouettes in modern design. Part of the Eames Plastic Chairs family, developed from 1950 onwards, it combines an enveloping, curved shell with a particularly graphic wooden and metal base.
Its name, DSW, stands for Dining Height Side Chair Wood Base. A technical designation for a chair that has become a true benchmark of contemporary design. At Maison Vachon, the DSW Chair, produced by Vitra, is available in several colours, including white, black, ocean blue, basalt and mustard. This variety allows you to play with colours and create arrangements that are as understated as they are creative. Whether around a reception table, in a showroom, on an exhibition stand or in a dining area, it fits in perfectly.
A chair that has stood the test of time without ever losing its sense of style.
With the DAR Armchair, Charles & Ray Eames revisited the design language of their famous moulded shell, adding armrests. Its metal base, nicknamed the Eiffel Tower Base, gives it a light and instantly recognisable silhouette. Produced by Vitra, this armchair combines organic lines, comfort and contemporary aesthetics.
At Maison Vachon, it is available in several colours, including white, black, red and absinthe. Whether in a lounge area, a showroom, a trade fair or a reception area, it creates welcoming seating whilst adding a graphic touch to the interior design. Paired with the DSW chairs, it also helps to create a cohesive display centred on the duo’s designs.
Same spirit, a little more comfort. And just as much character as ever.
Designed in 1956,
the Eames Lounge Chair is undoubtedly one of
Charles & Ray Eames’ most iconic creations. Their aim was to reinterpret the traditional club chair in a more contemporary style, combining the elegance of moulded wood with the comfort of leather. The result? An instantly recognisable silhouette, comprising moulded plywood shells, generous cushions and a swivelling base. Produced by Vitra, the Lounge Chair is available at Maison Vachon in black and white versions.
A true statement piece, it fits naturally into a VIP area, a temporary executive office, a showroom or a premium lounge. Used on its own, it immediately catches the eye. Paired with other design pieces, it lends a more sophisticated touch to the overall look.
An armchair designed for relaxation. Now an absolute benchmark in design.
With the LCW Lounge Chair – short for Lounge Chair Wood – Charles & Ray Eames demonstrated that plywood could become a true canvas for experimentation. Designed in 1945, this chair is distinguished by its organic curves and its structure, which is entirely based on moulded wood. At a time when furniture design still largely favoured traditional construction methods, the duo explored the possibilities offered by new manufacturing techniques to create a chair that is lightweight, durable and comfortable.
Produced by Vitra, the LCW Armchair is available at Maison Vachon, notably in a cowhide version. Its sculptural silhouette makes it a particularly striking piece for lounge areas, showrooms or interior displays that showcase natural materials.
A chair that proves that wood, too, can break the mould.
The appeal of Charles & Ray Eames’ designs lies in their ability to adapt to a wide variety of settings, whilst retaining an instantly recognisable identity. The DSW Chairs can be used to create contemporary reception or dining areas. The DAR Armchairs add extra comfort and character to any layout.
The Lounge Armchair, a true design icon, becomes a standout piece in VIP areas, whilst the LCW Armchair introduces a more sculptural and cosy feel. This synergy allows for the creation of cohesive settings, whether for a trade fair, a showroom, a reception or a brand event. Hiring Charles & Ray Eames furniture thus allows you to incorporate historic pieces of modern design into resolutely contemporary settings.
Because some creations don’t need to follow trends. They transcend them.
At Maison Vachon, we love designs that tell a story and instantly give a space its own identity. With the DSW Chairs, the DAR Armchairs, the Lounge Chair and the LCW Armchair, Charles & Ray Eames offer four complementary interpretations of modern design.
Produced by Vitra and available to hire from Maison Vachon, these pieces allow you to envisage reception areas, lounges, showrooms or professional events where the furniture becomes a key element of the overall design.
These designs combine innovation, comfort and timeless aesthetics.
With Charles & Ray Eames, design may have a long history, but it has never gone out of fashion.
