Charlotte Perriand: feminine design, without compromise!

Charlotte Perriand, a pioneer who broke the mould

For Charlotte Perriand, design is about more than just creating beautiful furniture. Above all, it is about imagining new ways of living, working and inhabiting spaces. Born in Paris in 1903, this French architect and designer is one of the leading figures of 20th-century modern design. Trained at the Union Centrale des Arts Décoratifs, she made her mark as early as 1927 with her ‘Bar sous le toit’ project, which combined metal, modernity and boldness.

That same year, she joined the studio of Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret. Together, they devised designs that have become iconic in contemporary furniture, notably the LC collection.

But Charlotte Perriand did not limit herself to this collaboration. Inspired by her travels, particularly to Japan, she developed a personal approach in which natural materials, functionality and freedom of form played an essential role.

Her ambition? To design furniture that adapts to its uses, without ever compromising on aesthetics. A philosophy reflected in two pieces bearing her name, available for hire from Maison Vachon: the Ventaglio Desk and the Petalo Coffee Table, produced by Cassina.

A woman ahead of her time. And designs that have lost none of their modernity.

The Ventaglio Desk: wood spreads its wings

With the Ventaglio Desk, designed in 1972, Charlotte Perriand demonstrates that functional furniture can also become a true architectural feature. Its name, which means ‘fan’ in Italian, refers to the distinctive shape of its top, composed of fourteen wooden slats. Resting on a three-legged frame, this desk stands out for its geometric lines and ingenious construction. Wood takes centre stage in a design that is both warm and resolutely modern.

Produced by Cassina, the Ventaglio Desk lends itself to a wide range of uses. At Maison Vachon, it naturally finds its place in a temporary executive office, a showroom, a meeting space or a high-end trade fair. Its original silhouette helps to structure the space whilst lending a strong visual identity to the interior design.

A desk that lacks neither grandeur nor character.

Petalo coffee table: nature inspires the forms

With the Petalo coffee table, Charlotte Perriand explores another facet of her work: that of organic forms and inspiration drawn from nature. As its name suggests, this creation evokes the silhouette of a petal. Its gentle curves and minimalist aesthetic illustrate the designer’s commitment to simple forms and the beauty of materials.

Produced by Cassina, it combines a sculptural presence with everyday functionality. At Maison Vachon, the Petalo coffee table is particularly well-suited to lounge areas, showrooms and contemporary reception spaces. It can serve as the focal point of a social space or complement designer armchairs and sofas in a more intimate setting. Its original silhouette adds a touch of softness and movement to the interior scheme, without overwhelming the overall design.

A coffee table that draws its curves from nature. And one that naturally catches the eye.

Why choose Charlotte Perriand’s designs for an event?

Charlotte Perriand’s furniture stands out for its ability to combine functionality, aesthetics and freedom of arrangement. The Ventaglio desk allows you to create a workspace or meeting area with a distinctive character, whilst the Petalo coffee table brings a more organic feel to lounge areas.

Two different designs, but the same philosophy: to create furniture that adapts to its purpose and plays a key role in defining a space’s identity. Their timeless aesthetic means they can be incorporated into a wide range of settings: trade fairs, showrooms, VIP areas, corporate events or high-end receptions. Charlotte Perriand’s furniture hire service thus offers the opportunity to incorporate iconic pieces of French design into an event, where every form serves a specific purpose.

Because a beautiful piece of furniture does more than simply fill a space. It gives it meaning.

Charlotte Perriand makes her mark at Maison Vachon

At Maison Vachon, we love designs that tell a story and lend a genuine personality to spaces. With the Ventaglio desk and the Petalo coffee table, produced by Cassina, Charlotte Perriand brings two complementary visions of contemporary furniture.

Available to hire from Maison Vachon, these pieces allow you to create reception areas, pop-up offices or lounges where design becomes a key element of the overall setting. Two creations that reflect the same conviction: furniture must be designed to complement life, its various uses and the people who come together.

With Charlotte Perriand, design has always been one step ahead. And it continues to inspire us.
