FROM INDUSTRIAL DESIGN TO ARTISTIC FURNITURE DESIGN

Cassina was founded in 1927 in Meda, Italy, by brothers Cesare and Umberto Cassina. Initially specializing in industrial design, the company's main activity was the production of wooden coffee tables. It was later that it turned its attention to mass-producing furniture.

In 1954, the Italian brand won the Compasso d'Oro, one of the most prestigious design awards, for the first time. The company went on to win the award many times for its products. Since 2015, the brand has undergone a transformation with the arrival of designer Patricia Urquiola, who joined the company as artistic director.

MANY REISSUES

Cassina mainly reissues designer furniture, including the famous LC collection by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand. This range includes the LC2 sofas and LC3 sofas, the LC7 armchair, and the LC6 desk. Gerit Thomas Rietveld's furniture is also being reissued, notably with the Utrecht armchairs and sofas available in different colors for rental.

The latest gem in terms of design icons is the Capitol Complex seating collection designed by Pierre Jeanneret and recognizable by its characteristic “V” base. These pieces are available as indigo blue velvet armchairs and sofas, or as black lacquered solid wood chairs with natural cane seating.

IMPORTANT COLLABORATIONS

The Cassina brothers have always given opportunities to many designers, whether renowned or not, always prioritizing their creativity. The company has collaborated with Charlotte Perriand, who created the Petalo coffee table and the Ventaglio desk for the brand.

The same is true of Jean-Marie Massaud, who designed the Auckland armchair, the Aspen sofa, and the Kennedee sofa and armchair, and even Philippe Starck with his Prive sofa.
