For Jérôme Abel Seguin, wood is not merely a material. It is almost the
starting point of the whole story. Born in 1950, this French artist and designer has, for several decades, been developing a body of work that straddles the boundaries between furniture, sculpture and craftsmanship. Trained notably at the École Boulle, he experimented with various materials before making solid, distinctive woods one of his principal means of expression.
His career has also taken him to Indonesia, where he works with major local timber species. Ironwood, teak, merbau and tree roots are transformed in his hands into pieces of furniture with deliberately raw forms, in which the irregularities and traces left by nature are not concealed. They form part of the design. His approach is thus based on a rather unique balance: intervening just enough to transform the material, but never to the point of making it lose its character.
The result? Creations that deliberately straddle the line between furniture and works of art.
For Jérôme Abel Seguin, imperfections are not corrected. They are embraced.
At Maison Vachon, this aesthetic is embodied by the Abel Seguin Console Table, available for hire. And it’s hard to think of it as merely an occasional piece of furniture.
With its solid wood, bold proportions and deliberately raw finish, the console table puts the material itself centre stage. The wood’s natural shades, grain and irregularities lend its design a particularly expressive quality. This approach is characteristic of the work of Jérôme Abel Seguin, who creates sideboards in ironwood, mahogany and other solid woods, sometimes combined with iron. Some are designed as one-off pieces or produced in very limited runs. Whether in a reception area, a showroom, a VIP lounge, a hotel or an event setting, the Abel Seguin console table can thus become a real visual focal point. A few objects, a floral arrangement or even nothing at all: the material itself is enough to enhance the space.
A console table, yes. But certainly not one that blends into the background.
The strength of Jérôme Abel Seguin’s work lies in his ability to introduce texture, depth and an almost sculptural dimension to a space. In settings that are sometimes very sleek or highly structured, wood immediately creates a contrast. Its rough edges, nuances and organic character bring warmth whilst lending the venue greater personality.

The Abel Seguin Console can thus serve as a reception piece, a display stand or simply as a decorative feature in its own right. Renting Jérôme Abel Seguin furniture therefore makes perfect sense for events, showrooms, hotels or premium spaces seeking a unique piece rather than overly standardised furnishings.
Because sometimes, a single piece of furniture is enough to transform the character of a setting.
At Maison Vachon, we love pieces that have a story to tell even before they’re used. The Abel Seguin Console clearly falls into this category. Available for hire, it allows you to incorporate furniture that is both functional and sculptural into a setting, where the wood becomes a genuine decorative feature. A piece particularly well-suited to reception areas, lounge spaces, showrooms, receptions, hotels or high-end events where every detail contributes to the venue’s identity.
With Jérôme Abel Seguin, ultimately, there’s no need to try to completely tame nature.
Sometimes, all you need to do is make room for it.
