KWOK HOÏ CHAN: 1970s DESIGN SEES LIFE IN COLOUR!

KWOK HOÏ CHAN, THE DESIGNER WHO SHAKED UP THE RULES OF SEATING

For Kwok Hoï Chan, design is all about freedom, shapes and colours. At a time when furniture was beginning to break free from convention, this Chinese-born designer created seating that invites us to rethink the way we occupy space. Born in 1939 in Hong Kong, Kwok Hoï Chan trained as an architect before embarking on an international career spanning Asia and Europe. He worked notably in London, where he was involved in interior design projects, before continuing his career in France.

His collaboration with the French furniture manufacturer Steiner marked a significant milestone in his career. Together, they developed designs characterised by their organic lines, comfort and innovative approach to furniture. Inspired by the forms found in nature and Chinese calligraphy, Kwok Hoï Chan favoured fluid silhouettes and lightweight structures. This aesthetic came into its own in the 1970s, when design was exploring new ways of living and furnishing interiors.

Among his most iconic works is the ‘Chromatique’ collection, created in 1970 for Steiner. With its generous curves, bold colours and modular design, it perfectly embodies the creative spirit of this decade. At Maison Vachon, the ‘Chromatique’ armchairs are available to hire to create original and welcoming event spaces.

With Kwok Hoï Chan, design breaks the mould. And bursts into colour!

CHROMATIQUE ARMCHAIRS: MODULARITY THINKS BIG

With the Chromatique armchairs, Kwok Hoï Chan has devised a new way of designing relaxation spaces. Created in 1970 and produced by Steiner Paris, this collection stands out for its rounded shapes, generous proportions and an aesthetic firmly rooted in the 1970s. What makes it unique? A modular seating system that allows you to create arrangements of various sizes.

Available in small and large sizes, the Chromatic armchairs can be combined to create sofas with undulating lines, curved arrangements or large lounge areas. Their low, enveloping silhouettes invite you to relax, whilst their organic shapes add a truly decorative dimension to any interior.

At Maison Vachon, the collection is available in a particularly rich colour palette: orange, red, magenta, fuchsia, turquoise, celadon green, pine green and emerald green.

These different shades allow you to create colourful and dynamic displays, or to play with the nuances to create more harmonious ensembles. Whether at a trade fair, in a showroom, a VIP area or at a brand event, these colourful armchairs become key elements of the overall design. Paired with round coffee tables and contemporary lighting, they allow you to recreate a 1970s atmosphere or add a retro touch to a more modern setting.

Armchairs that are full of curves and character. And which work perfectly well as part of a group!

WHY CHOOSE KWOK HOÏ CHAN’S CREATIONS FOR AN EVENT?

Kwok Hoï Chan’s furniture has a major advantage for events: its ability to transform a space through its shapes and modularity. The colourful armchairs allow you to create layouts suited to an event’s various configurations, whilst establishing a strong visual identity.

Their colours also offer great creative freedom. They can be used to reflect a brand’s identity, energise a reception area or create a setting inspired by the 1970s. Their low profile and generous shapes encourage interaction and help to create a relaxed atmosphere.

Kwok Hoï Chan’s furniture hire service therefore offers an original solution for furnishing lounge areas, showrooms, trade fairs and corporate events.

Because well-designed furniture does more than simply furnish a space. It brings it to life.
