Flos (which means “Flower” in Latin), is a publisher specializing in the production of high-end designer lighting fixtures. The company was founded in 1962 in Merano, Italy, by Dino Gavina, an Italian entrepreneur. The idea behind his project: to revolutionize the identity of the luminaire as a form of artistic and creative expression.
A few years later, it was a reality. In 1972, Flos was fortunate enough to exhibit several of its creations at New York's MoMa. This opportunity propelled Flos to international prominence in the design market, before establishing its style in our homes.
Today, the brand offers a wide range of lighting fixtures, including table lamps, floor lamps, wall lights, ceiling lights and outdoor lamps.
On several occasions, the company has demonstrated its innovative spirit and ability to evolve. For example, it has progressively replaced light bulbs with LED lighting in its creations, or created a department specialized in public lighting: “Flos Architectural Lighting”.
Flos quickly made a name for itself in the world of design with its innovative yet timeless creations. The company's many fruitful collaborations include Philippe Starck, who was still little-known at the time. This collaboration gave birth to the
Ktribe lamp, the
floor lamp and the
ceiling lamp of the same name.Flos has also worked with well-known designers such as Achille Castiglioni and Pier Giacomo, with whom they created the iconic Snoopy lamp in 1967. More recent work includes the highly acclaimed Patricia Urquiola and the
Tatou collection, which includes a table lamp and a floor lamp. Today, the publisher can be found in over 90 different countries. It is recognized as one of the leading players in the high-end designer lighting market.
