THE PUBLISHER'S ORIGINS

Robert Sentou founded his company of the same name in 1947. It all began when he set up his first workshop, “La Chaise Paillée”, as part of a rehabilitation project for prisoners at the Mauzac penitentiary, followed by a workshop with his own factory in Lalinde. In 1977, he opened a store in Paris to sell the furniture he had designed.

In 1986, Robert Sentou handed over his position as director to Jacques Boissonnas, a fervent advocate of design. He eventually founded Sentou Galerie with the help of interior architect Roger Fatus and designer Roger Tallon. Sentou Galerie's aim was to offer designer and custom-made furniture, with a particular focus on decorating professionals.

TOWARDS A DIVERSIFIED FURNITURE OFFER

In 1990, the company turned a corner. Robert Sentou and Jacques Boissonnas decided to entrust the management of the company to Pierre Romanet, a man with the same profile as themselves. From then on, Sentou became the exclusive distributor of Isamu Noguchi lightings. The publisher then joined forces with designers such as Sori Yanagi and Artek to develop their offer, as well as with young emerging French designers such as Tsé-Tsé, Migeon & Migeon and Robert le Héros.

Pierre Romanet himself will sign a number of pieces for Sentou, including the Sentou Edition collection of furniture including Coogee sofas, Coogee armchairs and Lalinde coffee tables, which have become Vachon's flagship products. The publishing house is renowned for its original, colorful collections, a modern, poetic state of mind inspired by Pierre Romanet.

EXHIBITING AND DISSEMINATING DESIGN

More than a publisher, Sentou contributes to the democratization of design. In 25 years, the publisher has worked to organize 40 exhibitions, including two devoted to Isamu Noguchi in 2012 and 2022. A retrospective exhibition of the designer Roger Tallon also took place in 2016, organized jointly with the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.

In July 2022, Sentou celebrated 75 years of creating and spreading the art of living throughout France and abroad.
