the HISTORY OF INDUSTRIAL FURNITURE

The TOLIX brand was founded by Xavier Pauchard in 1908. Also known as “Monsieur X”, he was initially a manufacturer of sheet metal household goods. Then, in 1927, with the help of a collection of utility furniture, he became a benchmark in industrial furniture. Over the years, TOLIX has been able to equip all kinds of places with its robust, lightweight and hygienic furniture. The company has worked for the army, hospitals, factories, offices, seaside resorts and café terraces.

In 2004, Chantal Andriot, then financial director of TOLIX, gave the company a second lease of life, taking over the reins after a court-ordered liquidation. She preserved the essence of the brand while adding a new touch. The aim was to respond to current market trends: shapes, colors and functionality.

A RECOGNIZED BRAND

TOLIX is well known both in France and abroad. Some of its creations have even been added to the collections of the Vitra Design Museum in Germany, the MoMa in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. In 2006, the publisher was honored to receive the “Living Heritage Company” label, awarded by the French Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industry.

The brand is renowned for its creations, including those of founder Xavier Pauchard. The H stool is now considered an icon of industrial furniture, as is the HPD stool, which has a backrest. Their distinctive feature: a simple design with straight legs and a pressed sheet metal seat. Often stackable, they are perfectly suited to collective use, such as for events. Even with the patina of age, TOLIX products reinforce their character: an essential asset for industrial style.
