Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec: Design Is Even Better Together!

Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Two Brothers Reinventing Design

For the Bouroullec brothers, design is a family affair. Two personalities, two creative perspectives and one shared ambition: to create objects that combine simplicity, functionality and creativity. With their clean lines, innovative materials and poetic approach to furniture, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have left their mark on the history of contemporary French design. Born in 1971 and 1976 in Brittany, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec developed a passion for creativity from an early age. Ronan studied at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris, while Erwan trained at the École nationale supérieure d'arts in Cergy-Pontoise.

In the late 1990s, the two brothers joined forces to develop a shared design language, bringing together furniture, interior architecture and textile design. Their philosophy is based on a constant search for balance between technology and sensitivity, innovation and simplicity. Their talent quickly attracted the attention of major international design brands. They have collaborated with Vitra, Magis, Ligne Roset, Hay, Flos and Kvadrat, creating collections that have since become iconic.

Among their most famous creations is the belleville chair, produced by Vitra in 2015, which reinterprets the traditional Parisian bistro chair, as well as the steelwood collection, developed for Magis, combining solid wood and steel in an aesthetic that is both industrial and inviting. With the alcove collection, designed for Vitra in 2006, the two designers also explored a new way of furnishing open spaces. Thanks to its high upholstered backrests, the sofa becomes a private retreat, encouraging conversation while preserving a sense of tranquility.

Their work reflects an approach to design that goes beyond creating beautiful objects, aiming instead to improve the way we live and interact with our surroundings. At la Maison Vachon, several of their creations are available for rental to create contemporary, comfortable and elegant event spaces.

With the Bouroullec brothers, design is a collaboration. And ideas take on a whole new dimension!

Ploum Sofa: Comfort Takes Center Stage

With the ploum sofa, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have created a seat that immediately invites relaxation. Designed in 2011 and produced by Ligne Roset, this sofa stands out for its generous silhouette, enveloping curves and quilted appearance. A true invitation to sit back, relax and forget about time.

Its secret lies in the combination of exceptionally soft foam and stretch fabric upholstery that follows the body's contours. An innovative design that delivers a wonderfully soft seating experience while maintaining a contemporary aesthetic. With its rounded volumes and inviting appearance, the ploum sofa perfectly illustrates the Bouroullec brothers' philosophy: placing comfort and the user experience at the heart of design.

At la Maison Vachon, it is available for rental to furnish lounge areas, VIP spaces and relaxation zones. In a showroom, at a reception or during a corporate event, it helps create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Paired with a minimalist coffee table or a designer lamp, it naturally becomes the centerpiece of an inviting space.

A sofa that lives up to its name. With ploum, comfort always falls into place!

Abalon Sofa: Design Comes Out of Its Shell

With the abalon sofa, the Bouroullec brothers offer a new interpretation of the contemporary sofa, where organic shapes meet textile innovation. Produced by Vitra, this sofa stands out for its curved, enveloping silhouette, inspired by the protective shape of a seashell.

Its generous backrest creates a true alcove, providing a sense of privacy within the surrounding space. Its knitted fabric upholstery, featuring contrasting textures and colors on the inside and outside, enhances its distinctive character. With its soft yet sculptural aesthetic, the abalon sofa almost seems to float in space. A creation that perfectly illustrates the designers' ability to combine innovation, comfort and elegance.

At la Maison Vachon, the abalon sofa is available for rental to create distinctive event spaces. In a VIP lounge, showroom or lounge area, it provides a comfortable meeting place while visually structuring the space. Its enveloping silhouette also makes it an interesting choice for creating conversation areas or stage settings.

A sofa that comes out of its shell to make a lasting impression!

Belleville Chair: A Fresh Take on Parisian Bistro Style

With the belleville chair, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec revisit a classic piece of French furniture: the traditional bistro chair. Designed in 2015 and produced by Vitra, this chair takes its name from the Parisian neighborhood of Belleville, where the two designers established their studio.

Its slim, gently curved silhouette recalls traditional Parisian café chairs while offering a distinctly contemporary interpretation. Its polyamide structure, curved backrest and lightweight lines give it an aesthetic that is both simple and refined. A creation that successfully combines the elegance of classic furniture with the modernity of contemporary design.

At la Maison Vachon, the belleville chair is available for rental to furnish reception areas, pop-up restaurants, trade shows and corporate events. Around a meeting table, a bistro table or in a dining area, it adds a welcoming and elegant touch. Its understated silhouette also allows it to blend effortlessly into different settings, from a Parisian bistro to a contemporary showroom.

A chair with Parisian charm. And a design that's perfectly in tune with the times!

Steelwood Collection: When Wood Meets Metal

With the steelwood collection, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec demonstrate how combining traditional materials can result in distinctly contemporary furniture. Developed for Magis from 2007 onwards, this collection is based on a simple idea: bringing together the warmth of solid wood and the strength of pressed steel in a structure where the connections remain deliberately visible.

The collection stands out for its clean lines, authentic materials and aesthetic that is both industrial and welcoming. At la Maison Vachon, two creations are available for rental: the steelwood chair and the steelwood stool.

The steelwood chair combines a solid wood base with a steel structure. Its gently curved backrest and well-balanced seat give it an elegant and functional silhouette. The steelwood stool follows the same design principles in a taller format, particularly suited to bars, counters and dining areas.

This combination of wood and metal makes it possible to create warm atmospheres inspired by Scandinavian or industrial design. At a trade show, corporate event or reception, the steelwood collection provides a cohesive and elegant solution for furnishing meeting areas, dining spaces and networking zones.

The steelwood chair was also awarded the prestigious Compasso d'Oro in 2011, one of the most important distinctions in the design world.

With steelwood, wood and metal make the perfect team. And the result is full of character!

Central Bistro Table: Design Finds Its Perfect Balance

With the central bistro table, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have created a minimalist table where every element seems to fall naturally into place. Produced by Magis, this table stands out for its central base and clean-lined tabletop. A lightweight, functional silhouette that focuses on the essentials without compromising on elegance.

Its design reflects the Bouroullec brothers' approach: creating furniture that appears simple but has been carefully considered down to the smallest detail to meet everyday needs. At la Maison Vachon, the central bistro table is available for rental to furnish reception areas, dining spaces and meeting points.

Paired with belleville or steelwood chairs, it creates contemporary and harmonious furniture arrangements. It also fits naturally into showrooms, trade shows and reception areas, where its understated design provides the perfect setting for conversation. Its minimalist aesthetic allows it to blend effortlessly into a variety of decorative styles, from sleek contemporary interiors to warmer, more welcoming spaces.

A bistro table that gets straight to the point. And knows how to stay at the center of attention!
